Crafting Your Wild ARK

I often get asked if The Way of the Wildpreneur is about business or if it's about well-being and community. The truth? It's always both.

To build a sustainable business and lead a thriving life, we can't separate our personal well-being from our work. This is especially true for solo entrepreneurs or small teams whose businesses reflect their own dreams and health. In times like these, with challenges ranging from climate upheaval to economic strain, it's clear: if we want to heal the larger cultural ecosystem, we must start by nurturing our own.

This journey begins by crafting our own ARK—built with Acts of Radical Kindness. An ARK is about creating a sanctuary by leading both our business and personal lives in harmony with our true nature and the world around us. It's about rejecting the hustle, the "shoulds," and the constant pressure for more and instead embracing what truly matters: the intelligence of the heart.

Imagine your ARK as a safe vessel navigating life's wild waters. This vessel is your restored ecosystem, rooted in compassion and kindness. It becomes a refuge for yourself and others, and its impact spreads beyond you—rippling out into your community and beyond. When we shape our businesses with kindness, fair pay, balanced hours, and respect for all, we're not just improving our own lives; we're creating a model from which others can draw.

Like nature, where everything is connected—from the mycelium underfoot to the trees and creatures above—our lives and work are also part of a greater whole. To thrive, we must honor that interconnectedness. Crafting an ARK is about embracing this truth and nurturing every aspect of our ecosystem.

Through all the roles I've taken on over the past 14 years—raising children as a single mother, managing chronic health concerns, and evolving my business—I've learned that true success isn't about keeping parts of our lives separate. It's about weaving them together, allowing our business dreams to be nourished by every element of our lives. And as we do this for ourselves, we create the possibility for others to do the same, ultimately healing the broader systems we are part of.

An Exercise to Craft Your Wild ARK

The first step to creating your Wild ARK is to envision your ideal ecosystem—the kind of life that would allow you to flourish. This exercise is about connecting your dreams to your everyday reality. Don’t worry about whether it’s practical or "realistic." Let go of whether it's practical or "realistic." Give yourself permission to dream freely and vividly.

Gloriously Ordinary Day Vision

What would a gloriously ordinary day look like in YOUR ecosystem?

Create a simple vision board with words or images that evoke a day-to-day life. Focus on the senses:

  • What do you want your life to FEEL like?

  • What do you want it to SMELL like?

  • What do you want it to TASTE like?

  • What do you want it to SOUND like?

  • What do you want it to LOOK like?

Name three things for each sense, focusing on a typical day—not an extraordinary day, but an ordinary Tuesday.

Do you want your day to feel fun—filled with joyful activities? Do you want the air to smell of a home-cooked meal waiting on the stove? Do you want to hear your kid’s stories as they come through the door after school? Do you want to see your name on a book cover—sitting on a bookstore shelf or even on the bestseller list? Do you want your day to feel like a luxurious blend of quiet time, creativity, and heartfelt conversations?

No dream is too big or too small as long as it is aligned with what your heart is calling you towards.

Once you know what you want your ordinary days to look like, we can start crafting the business that supports all of you—your dreams, your needs, and your unique path.

Keep this vision close. I like to make a collage and use it as a screensaver or a rotating set of desktop images, so I'm reminded every day why I'm doing this.

Let this vision become your compass, guiding you toward the life you deeply desire.
